Since 1975, the New Directions School (NDS) has been operated by the private nonprofit, Cutchins Programs for Children and Families, Inc. The primary therapeutic models offered at NDS include but are not limited to the following: Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the Attachment, Regulation and Competency model, the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, and Sensory Integration. Relationships with experienced trauma and attachment responsive staff, combined with educational and cutting edge therapeutic supports, provide the supports necessary to offer individualized, educational opportunities to each youth. In addition to academics, counseling, occupational therapy and physical education are woven into to programmatic structure. Vocational courses include pre-vocational, campus- and community-based work opportunities. The NDS is located in the historic district of Northampton on a campus that is adjacent to wooded trails and gardens, in a serene neighborhood that is close to downtown.
