Dearborn STEP provides an immersive 40-day educational, clinical assessment and treatment for students in Grades 5-12, who have been referred by their local school district due to challenges within their academic setting and school refusal.
We work with students, families/guardians, and referring school districts to understand students’ unique needs. Our individually-paced academic instruction and therapeutic services help them thrive academically and socially. By collaborating with various partners, we help students successfully transition to a long-term educational placement.
Within this integrated system of support, individualized instruction is guided by the curriculum of the referring school and implemented by our teachers. We have a strong clinical component which is inclusive of a consulting psychiatrist who works with the clinical counselors to support the student’s social and emotional needs.
Field trips and service projects offer hands-on learning opportunities to help students experience social success and build their self-esteem.
