Farr Academy is a therapeutic day school serving middle and high school students of average to above-average intelligence with a range of social-emotional challenges. Our students sometimes present with specific learning disabilities; others may be academically advanced. Students who enroll at Farr Academy have yet to learn to deal with social or personal issues appropriately and may resort to negative action, outbursts, or silence. With our non-judgmental, non-punitive problem-solving process, students learn the importance of respecting the opinions and feelings of others because their own voices are heard and valued. They learn how to successfully express themselves, make choices that can prevent problems or conflicts, and use better communication to solve problems when they arise through reflection and discussion. Paid internships, career exploration, and many other electives prepare students for their next steps after graduation. Our 25-day summer program provides extended opportunities for educational experiences in the community.
